SUSTAINABILITY

Place

With tech-enabled urban parks, bay views, and a curated cultural calendar, Melbourne Quarter expands everyday work beyond four walls. Vibrant art and culture meet wellness and sustainability, to create a place that residents, workers and visitors feel good in and feel good about.

With a focus on creating healthy, resilient and positive places for people to live and work in, Melbourne Quarter is certified to the highest sustainability rating for precincts in Australia, achieving a 6 Star Green Star Communities v1 rating.

We are placemaking from the ground up, taking into consideration the needs of our workers, residents and visitors. Melbourne Quarter is 50% green and open space across the 2.5 hectare precinct, offering a range of locations to relax, socialise and unwind.

With a precinct climate change adaptation and resilience plan in place, we are managing the risks of climate change and helping to create a comfortable environment for people to work and live in today and in the future. When evening falls, Melbourne Quarter comes to life with smart LED public lighting and a wayfinding system, which is woven throughout the precinct’s ground plane.

In building Melbourne Quarter, targets were put in place to drive responsible resource management, such as having up to 90 per cent of all construction waste being recycled, and 95 per cent of all timber used in building and construction works to be procured from sources that undertake sustainable land and management practices or reused timber.

Working

With two of three commercial buildings having achieved a 6 Star Green Star Design & As Built rating, with the third and final commercial building Melbourne Quarter Tower targeting the same, our workplaces are built to be highly energy and water efficient, with strong waste management processes in place; supporting our occupiers on their sustainability journey.

Sustainability initiatives include:

- Low energy initiatives, including Power over Ethernet (PoE) lighting and cabling technology, will connect the precinct’s office buildings, allowing for the simple transmission of data and power to all buildings in the precinct.

- Captured storm water will be recycled at Melbourne Quarter for irrigation throughout the precinct.

- Our optimised end-of-trip facilities offer employees alternative transport opportunities, integrating health and wellness offerings within our buildings from the ground up.

- a 97% walk score and best practice accessible design.

- Design features that optimise air quality, thermal comfort, and natural light for a healthy and inviting workplace.

  • Improved ventilation via a dedicated kitchen exhaust

The apartments are targeting a 5 Star Green Star Design & A Built rating, representing ‘Australian Excellence in sustainable design’.
